Preparing to Manage Human Resources

“Preparing to Manage Human Resources” gives you a foundation to develop your own approach to human resource management (HRM). Learn different HRM strategies when managing your employees, legal aspects of HRM, and what motivates employees.

Modules include videos and quizzes to help with your learning.

HubSpot Academy offers a variety of free online training courses, specifically around marketing and sales. Their Graphic Design Essentials course takes about 44 minutes and includes 3 lessons on creating simple designs for your business.

Pathway’s Women’s Business Center offers a variety of free online courses regarding financial education. Their Small Businesses course covers the fundamentals of financing a small business. We recommend this course for folks who are looking for financial support for their business.

Her Data Method

The Her Data Method offers two courses to demystify data to give female entrepreneurs more confidence in building their marketing strategy. Their courses are called “Intro to Data Collection” and “Data Collection 101”.

Center for Women & Enterprise

The Center for Women & Enterprise hosts an online learning center, where you can take a variety of courses (they have 80+ online business courses) on your own schedule. This is an option for people who want a lot of flexibility in their online learning. Courses cost approximately $95, take about 24 hours, and you have six weeks to complete the learning.

Harvard University

Harvard University offers business courses online that you can apply for (the application takes about ten minutes). Courses include “entrepreneurship essentials” and “business analytics,” and range in cost (approximately $1000-$1500 for a 6-8 week course), but there are financial aid and scholarship opportunities available.

Class Central

Class Central offers a way of searching across websites for online courses (some of which are free and some of which cost money). Online courses are sometimes referred to as MOOCS, which stands for massive open online courses. You can search Class Central by topic, University, or web provider.

Coursera

Coursera offers online courses (at varying costs) in partnership with top universities and organizations. Their courses are all web-based and interactive, so you can take quizzes and interact with other course participants to discuss ideas and ask questions. Coursera also enables you to earn certificates and degrees.

Business Building Blocks (B3) for Women

werc space has partnered with the Southwest Florida Women’s Foundation (a Women’s Funding Network member) to bring you Business Building Blocks B3 for women. This is an online, self-paced video series specifically designed for women who are just getting their business started. The courses are accompanied by worksheets and other materials.

We recommend this course if you are interested in learning more about launching your business.

This course covers:

  • Determine if there is a market for your business
  • Know the legal process and financial steps for starting one
  • Know how to develop a business and marketing plan
